Victory Garden Initiative Urban Farm.

Nutritious and Delicious!

Visit our Urban farm to discover new fruits and vegetables you never dreamed of trying, or find those that bring back the memories of childhood meals. From okra and collard greens to strawberries and mulberries, we grow a wide variety of produce that is available to the community at NO COST!

The Farm.

This is a U-Pick farm.

If you live in the area, especially in the Harambee neighborhood, this garden is for you. Pick what you would like when it’s ready for harvest, leave some for others! Don’t feel comfortable harvesting? Ask a VGI Staff Member for some tips, or come by our weekly Friday FarmStand from 12-3PM to pick up harvested and washed produce!

We are a regenerative farm.

A regenerative farm is one that actively focuses on soil health and regeneration! This means that at Victory Garden Initiative we do not till our soil or treat it with any chemicals — this includes not adding fertilizers! To avoid using fertilizers we enrich our soil with nutrients through cover crop planting and compost production (learn more about our compost pile below). Tilling the soil releases carbon into the atmosphere and disturbs important organic matter and microorganisms that help food grow to be nutritious and delicious. All produce grown is non-GMO, and we source heirloom seed and plant varieties whenever possible. It is important to us that we ensure our farm is operating at the highest capacity and fostering longevity for our climate and neighborhood.

Hot Organic Compost

80-100 Tons of Compost Per Year.

Fresh organic produce is collected 6 days/week year-round, which gives us the capacity to supply organic hot compost to throughout our farm and to the community. You may come and collect fresh compost at the rear of our farm, sift it into a container you brought and take it home to replenish your garden space!

Our Compost is a Carbon Sink.

Organic compost takes carbon out of the air and revitalizes its surroundings while also providing nitrogen-rich soil that can also nourish the food consumed by the community. Compost is also important for improving local water quality, reducing runoff and erosion, and reducing waste! To learn more benefits behind compost, explore here.

Balancing the Matter.

The goal temperature is to be 140 degrees to 160 degrees year-round with an intricate ratio between green matter, brown matter, and carbon.
